I have been running around all summer, trying to get everything together for my journey. Do not underestimate the amount of paperwork involved. And, I’m teaching two classes online this summer. So, it’s been busy. Unfortunately, I did not make it to California to visit my family. I came down with shingles just as I was preparing to go… Needless to say, I barely made it back to Tallahassee from Washington, DC. I was miserable up to (7/24) Sunday afternoon when I went back to the doctor. I’m feeling MUCH better now.
I’ve registered for absentee ballots. I’ve cleaned out my closet and E.N.’s closet. Paid bills. Arranged for online billing… It’s been a crazy time in my life in addition to preparing for the trip. I have a complete basement gut and repair going on. The probate case for my father is still open. And, my entire report chain at work, sigh–department chair, dean, assistant provost, provost, president.. It’ll be good to get away from that.
I’ve packed two of my bags at least 4-5 times each. I’m now on my last bag and carry-on. I’ve been told that the Embassy Staff and the Dean of the Faculty of commerce were pleased with the condition of my little faculty house at the University of Swaziland. The only sticking point is that it doesn’t currently have heating nor air conditioning. Again, the embassy staff is facilitating the installation for me on Friday (7/29) so it’ll be nice in the house when I arrive on Monday (8/1). The projected weather for my arrival in Swaziland Monday morning is a high of 72 and a low of 50 degrees Monday night.
